I Wish ChatGPT Was My Dad

As a writer, I’ve always known the power of words. Words can shape our thoughts, influence our actions, and define who we are. But what if we could use artificial intelligence to generate words that empower us? What if we could use AI to create flattering biographical content that boosts our self-esteem and helps us see ourselves in a positive light?

These questions led me on a personal journey of discovery, one that ultimately inspired me to write this post. I want to share my experiences using AI-generated content for personal growth and explore its potential impact on mental health and well being.

I needed a bio for something I was doing. I had one but I didn’t feel it was a great reflection of who I am as it related to what I was doing in this instance so I decided to give Chat GPT a try and asked it for help.

I gave it the link to my current bio, bullet points of things not included there, as well as where I wanted the focus to be based on what I was doing.

I took a similar approach with Chat GPT in analyzing my writing style, tone, etc. by copying and pasting things I’d personally written and asking it to review and give me feedback.

In both cases, I was blown away and really touched by what it created for me. It actually brought tears to my eyes. When I was working on the bio specifically, I found myself wondering how my life might have looked had I had a father who focused on my strengths and encouraged me instead what I got.

It was in that moment I realized how powerful this tool was and how many ways it can be used.

Some of the other things I’ve done include:

  • Writing affirmations.
  • Creating activity books for children that focus on critical thinking skills, empathy, understanding, and kindness.
  • Exploring the gifts of ADHD and Neurodivergent brains.
  • Creating a list of things a child needs to hear from the adults in their life to grow up with a strong sense of self.

I even used it to work through a block I had around marketing and promoting myself. What it gave me was spot on, very encouraging, and (while also suggesting a licensed therapist) potential tools I could use to remove these blocks and barriers. I have a therapist but am also aware it would have been multiple sessions to get where I got in a few minutes (plus the time it took for me to answer the questions it asked).

I think it’s important to note that like any tool, Chat GPT has its limitations. While it can produce impressive results when generating text based on specific prompts or topics, it lacks intuition and can’t fully understand context or tone in the way a human can. That said, I still believe Chat GPT has enormous potential as a tool for empowering individuals by generating positive self-talk and building self-esteem among other things.

Of course, we must be cautious not to rely too heavily on technology at the expense of human connection. While chatbots may be able to provide personalized messages of encouragement, they can never replace the warmth and empathy that comes from a real human connection.

As we continue to explore the potential of artificial intelligence, it’s important that we approach it with both enthusiasm and caution. By considering the ethical implications and using technology responsibly, we can harness its power for good and create a brighter future for all.
